Alexandra Street Renaming Ceremony

The Alexandra Street Renaming Ceremony took place in Alexandra on 25th October 2008. Over 1000 marchers took to the streets to watch the unveiling of 6 new street names  honouring struggle heroes such as Florence Moposho, Richard Baloyi, Reverend Sam Buti, Alfred Nzo, Josias Madzunya, Vincent Tshabalala and Meshack Kunene who emerged as prominent leaders in the community during the years of oppression. The event culminated in a rally at the newly renamed Meshack Kunene Stadium (formally Alex stadium) with addresses to the crowds by prominent leaders.
