Abused women and children in Alexandra will now have a place where they can seek refuge. Gauteng Housing MEC Nomvula Mokonyane officially handed over the newly built Bombani Safe
House
on Sunday, 25 March 2007. The shelter has 14 family rooms, office space and playing area for the children, and is a temporary home for up to 22 women and 30 children who are victims of abuse. The yellow double-storey house named Bombani,
meaning "be proud" in Xitsonga, was built by the Alexandra Renewal Programme (ARP) through financial assistance from the Gauteng Department of Housing at a cost of R2.5 million.
