Gauteng MEC for Housing Ms Nomvula Mokonyane launched the K206 and 520 housing development projects on 22nd November 2006.  The event was part of the final Provincial Imbizo for 2006 held at Eastbank Hall in Alexandra and the sod-turning ceremony took place on site.

In pursuit of the South African government's goal to eradicate squatter camps, the ARP has identified a need for 1st-tier affordable rental accommodation for the poor who do not qualify for a subsided house. The 520 project will provide 520 rooms available for rent.

K206 is the largest housing project in Alexandra to date. With 1760 affordable houses and 2150 rental rooms, it will be built in "cluster-style" developments.
