Sewerage
CCTV monitoring was undertaken in order to determine the quality of the existing sewerage pipelines and identify illegal connections. Work to repair and upgrade the system commenced in 2003.
Before 2000:
The increasing number of residents in Alex, unplanned development and overcrowding all contributed to overloading the existing infrastructure, to the point that water pressure was low and sewers frequently overflowed.

2002 : Jukskei Sub-outfall Sewer and other projects in Alexandra
The old main pump has been extended and converted to a gravitational sewer. This sewer will cross under the Jukskei River and discharge into the Bruma Outfall. Other pump stations currently located on the banks, and pipes over the Jukskei River will be eliminated.
