Pedestrian Bridges over Jukskei River

In the past, there were only three bridges across the Jukskei River in Alexandra. People either had to walk many kilometres to a bridge or risk crossing the river, sometimes under hazardous conditions. School children have had to wade through the river or test their balancing skills on a utility pipe high across the river. Tragically, lives have been lost when people have tried crossing the river in flood.

The ARP is constructing two pedestrian bridges over the river for the safety of Alex residents, particularly for the children walking to and from schools on the East Bank.
