Primary School Cluster

2004 Before:

A cluster of four schools including Iputheng Primary School sees to the education of 4800 children. The playgrounds and sportsfields were invaded by settlers who erected informal and illegal dwellings.   This left no space for the children outdoors, and a dangerous entrance to the school complex from the busy London road.

2005:

Consultation and negotiations with this small community of squatters is preparing them for resettlement. The land needs to cleared in preparation for rehabilitation and restoration of the schoolgrounds and a new entrance that is planned off London Road.

2007:

In 2006, the project was put on hold due to a lack of available temporary housing.

August. This project is now back on track, and the first 130 households have been moved, and the land around the new entrance is being cleared.

October. Approximately 220 households have been moved. Most of the inhabitants have qualified for, and been allocated houses, in Ext. 7. The first playground has been re-established.
