Gordon Primary School was in a bad state of repair,
while next door the Alexandra High School was in desperate need of
more land. The ARP came up with a creative solution to benefit both
schools.
The project began at the end of 2006 with careful planning to make
optimum usage of limited space in a very densely populated area.
The old Skeen School, situated one road down, was demolished to make
way for a brand new primary school to house the Gordon School
children. The original Gordon Primary was also demolished and
incorporated, together with a section of the road that has been
re-zoned, into Alex High School.
The big move took place in mid-May 2010 in an atmosphere of great
excitement. Mr. Tim Makhale, principle of Gordon Primary School, said,
"It's been a long wait, but we're delighted that it's all eventually
happening and we look forward to a great learning atmosphere in the
new school."
