Community Liaison and the ARP Help Desk

Renewal or upliftment in Alexandra cannot happen in isolation.  High levels of community involvement are essential to the success of the Project. The people of Alexandra are urged to participate in the planning process, understand the diverse challenges facing the Project on many levels, and finally to take pride in the improvements and ensure that they are sustained in the long-term.

Community organisations interact with the ARP through the ADF, but the ARP Project Team also firmly believes in one-to-one interaction with individual residents right where they live.

What or who are CLO's?

CLO’s, or Community Liaison Officers, are core ARP team members. Each CLO is an Alexandrian, who lives and shares the people's hopes and frustrations. They are the Project's ambassadors within the community and engage individual residents, as well as groups, in dialogue at ground level.

Home visits by the CLO's are part of the ARP's community participation initiative to help residents understand what the ARP is all about and how they will benefit from the Project's activities.

It also provides an opportunity for residents to bring their concerns to the ARP’s attention, to ask questions, and to either praise or criticise the Project.

Responsibilities of the Community Liaison Officers

The CLO’s responsibilities include:

• Attending and addressing community meetings that have a potential impact on the project.
• Mobilising the community in support of the project.
• Recording attitudes and perceptions of community groupings and other stakeholders towards the Project.
• Attending ARP functional team meetings to provide feedback from the community perspective on issues, opportunities and potential problems.
• Assisting in manning the help desk.
• Provide assistance in community events.
• Assist in the collection and distribution of information to the community.
• Informing and liaising with members of the community and other stakeholders about developmental issues and processes as far as the ARP is concerned.
• Sensitizing the community to project activities.
• Sensitizing the Project team to community concerns.
   

Help Desk and Information Dissemination

The ARP Help Desk, manned by the CLO's, liaises with the Alex community - answering questions or providing information on ARP activities.
