Youth Forum prepares for road ahead
We would like to take this opportunity to formally thank the Alex
youth for mandating the new leadership of the Alexandra Development
Youth Forum (ADYF) to advance and protect their interests.
As the new office bearers are quite aware we are faced with a
mammoth task to deliver on programmes that will benefit young people
in Alexandra. Based on this expectation, it was decided that we need a
strategic workshop to capacitate forum leadership, so as to meet these
challenges that lie ahead. To achieve this as the AYDF we have to
unpack and clarify our vision as to exactly what is it that we need to
do and how to do go about initiating youth programmes or activities.
To this effect, a two day strategic workshop was conducted on 22nd
September to deal with youth development issues. It was a resounding
success, despite contrary reports in the media that the workshop never
took place. For the record, we had to change the dates of the
workshop, as it did not suit certain strategic stakeholders including
the social welfare department.
Julian Baskin, ARP director and other stakeholder groups attended
in order to demonstrate how important this workshop was to everyone
interested in seeing our youth progress.
The forum is busy packaging programmes that it believes will
benefit the youth from creating training opportunities, job
placements, access to bursaries and scholarships. In short the forum
must make a meaningful and positive impact in the lives of young
people in our township. And when this happens we can proudly as the
AYDF collectively say that our mission has been accomplished.
