Greater
Alexandra Development Forum (GADF)

At a meeting of community stakeholders held on the 17 November
2001, it was agreed to establish the Alexandra Development Forum (ADF)
to represent all civil organisations within Alexandra. Membership in
the ADF is open to all non-governmental community organisations in
Alex.
Statement of Intent
"The members of the Alexandra Development Forum representing
civil society and communities involved in or living in Alexandra and
surrounding areas, hereby record the enormous and immediate need to
address renewal and development in Alexandra and solemnly and
sincerely commit themselves to the implementation of the Alexandra
Renewal Project.
In addition they further commit themselves to providing advice and
assistance, in a spirit of co-operation and support, so as to ensure
that the implementation of the Project is undertaken in a manner that
meets the needs of the residents of Alexandra."

Preamble to the Constitution of the Greater Alexandra Development Forum
- Problem Statement:
Greater Alexandra is facing deeply sited socio-economic problems as
a result of the legacy of the apartheid system. The levels of social
degradation unemployment and crime have soared to epidemic
proportions over the years. There is a general feeling of
hopelessness and despondency, especially amongst the less
privileged, that Alexandra may never see the dawn of a better life.
- Vision and Mission:
Therefore the ADF must strive for the creation and economically
vibrant community where its residents live decently. The ADF must
provides a platform to build partnership amongst all sectors of the
community and including efficient and effective public sector, and
to ensure that all stakeholders act in unison for the common good of
the residents of Greater Alexandra.
