Housing...
K206 Housing project
K206 is the largest housing project in Alexandra to date, with
1760 affordable houses and 2150 rental rooms.
Extension 7
The Extension 7 Housing Project is located in the East Bank of
Alexandra and consists of 1704 institutional subsidy units.
RDP Apartments
Phase 1 of this pilot project is the development of a two and
three storey complexes constructed in a high-density configuration
around a central open courtyard. Beneficiaries will own their
units as in any other RDP development.
Affordable Rental Accommodation: "520"
A ground-breaking concept has been developed to provide affordable
rental accommodation as an alternative to shacks for people who do
not qualify for subsided housing. This first development is
situation on the Far East Bank
Ekukhanisweni Primary School
The official opening of this custom-designed school by Nomvula
Mokonyane, Gauteng MEC for Housing.
Gordon Primary School
The original school was demolished and its site incorporated into
Alex High, The new Gordon Primary is being totally rebuilt on a
new, larger site.
Iputheng Primary School Cluster
The playgrounds and sports fields in this cluster of 4 schools had
been over-run with illegal dwellings. Negotiations with this
community of squatters prepared them for resettlement and the
first 130 households have been moved.
Bridges...
Vasco Bridge
This bridge extends Vasco da Gama Road across the Jukskei River to
link the Northern parts of Alexandra to the Far East bank and Ext
5 - 8 housing developments.
Pedestrian Bridges
The ARP is constructing two pedestrian bridges over the Jukskei
River for the safety of Alex residents.
Economic development...
Pan Africa Taxi & Retail Development
A taxi rank and taxi holding facility for 1000 vehicles, public
open market with 650 stall holders and 8000m² of commercial space
are being built.
